Food and Health

This section will encompass my "Tips, Tricks and Shortcuts.  If you have known me or lived with me, or worked with me even, you have heard me say this.  Out of years of working in the food and nutrition industry, baking experience, cleaning experience, even parenting, and other things I was fortunate to learn alot about healthy cooking and natural products, I have a long list of things that help, or save money, or stretch money, or simply make life easier.
I am a slave to organization, and simplification.  When it comes to food, I like it to be as healthy and natural as possible, and find new ways all the time how to do this, and save, not waste a thing!
I love finding ways to NOT throw out food items, and find other ways to use them, store them or save them.
I am embarking, for the second time, upon a Natural Health lifestyle.  I want to use foods and herbs, to improve health, improve conditions, and prevent disease and illness, as much as we can.
I've had to learn how to cook and bake with such conditions as diabetes, several food allergies, alternatives for gluten free recipes, and many other food alternatives if allergies, or foods that are an issue.
I love to find a favorite recipe, and make it a favorite healthiest recipe.  It's the closest I came to finding a way to enjoy science as an adult, lol.
I am also entering the learning arena of homeopathy, and herbal remedies, tonics, tinctures, teas and elixirs.  All made from real foods and some organic elements.  These will all be affordable, DIY (do it yourself) from home,  healthy recipes for life, with full directions and images.
It is a continuing passion of mine, and a firm belief that a balanced, healthy, happy "gut", cures many things that ail us.

My first post, will be a new Master Tonic I am introducing to our (My fiance and I) diets/lives. See the link on my page, for "Heal Thyself!"

I'm learning to use all the foods I buy, down to the skins off my peeled ginger, for my "Pine Cone Soup", and use my foods to not only nourish, but treat some of our every day health issues.  They have always said you are what you eat!!  I'm not denouncing traditional Pharmaceuticals, they have their place.  But a good, harmonious balance, is simply just a good idea.  Some of my ideas I have gathered along the way.  Some I have stumbled upon in my ever growing need to be as organized as I can.  One personality trait I KNOW is adored in me, lol.  Unless you are one of my poor victims in the war against clutter, that doesn't like throwing things out, and clearing space out, and organizing!!  It's my own spin on Zen..ya I like that excuse, er idea.

KITCHEN TIPS AND TRICKS

1.  Fresh herbs=Save what you don't use fresh, don't let it see the garbage. Place in a pie pan and dry in the oven at approx. 200F.  Once completely dry, crumble and save in a plastic sealed bag, a small jar, or as I do..recycled jars that I save for such things.  Baby food jars, and small condiment jars are great!! (I keep sticky labels and a black sharpie, to label and date all my home projects)

2.  Want to freeze chicken/beef stock, but don't want a big block to thaw?  Made too much coffee, or dislike the watery effect you get making iced coffee?  Simple Solution...Ice Cube Trays!!  Then I freeze it that way, then pop it into a large freezer bag, and voila!! Just use what you need.
